While the Covid-19 pandemic prevented us from running in-person courses last year, we are now back to face-to-face and hybrid courses.

EDU has sponsored the participation of young immunologists from Latin America to attend the ALACI meeting in June 2022 in Varadero, Cuba. In addition, EDU members will organize sessions on “Abstract writing, poster and oral presentation skills” embedded in the ALACI meeting.

In September, a hybrid course on “Immunologic memory in infection and vaccination” will be held in Cordoba, Argentina, open to students from Argentina and Latin America.

In December, a face-to-face course will take place in Zambia on “New advances in the immunology of the “big four” (Covid-19, HIV, TB, Malaria) infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa”, co-organized by the newly founded Zambian Society for Immunology. A hallmark of IUIS courses is their interactive format which requires that students interact and work together in small groups. They also include an obligatory pre-course based on teaching material available on Immunopaedia.
In addition to the courses, we plan the first two-days workshop on “Flow cytometry: from basic principles to research applications” in collaboration with the Benin Society for Immunology in early December.

Last but not least, EDU Committee again sponsored travel fellowships to allow selected students from low to middle income countries to participate in established courses of the American Association of Immunologists (AAI).
