IUIS relationship with the World Health Organization

September 15, 2017

IUIS has long had an informal relationship with the World Health Organisation (WHO). In 2017, this relationship was formalized according to WHO guidelines. The goal of the collaboration is to advance WHO’s work on quality, safety and efficacy of medical biological products with IUIS providing relevant expert immunology knowledge. Our new relationship involves planned contributions from IUIS and its members.

Specifically, we will work together on the WHO Programme Area: access to medicines and health technologies and strengthening regulatory capacity.

IUIS will provide support and knowledge in determining norms and standards for biologicals, especially vaccines, and scientific input on nomenclature of immunology molecules. We also support educational activities and communication to strengthen expertise in immunology.

We are grateful to Ivana Knezevic, who is our WHO liaison and has helped us immensely in creating this collaboration. We look forward to some exciting outcomes in the next three years.
