Vice-President’s Address Focus on the Committees |
|
|
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As your Vice President one of my tasks is to liaise with Committees and to be the link person to the ExCo or to other Committees within the IUIS. I am working through the list and have been in touch with some but not all of the Committee chairs on a range of issues. A common theme that emerges is the need to improve our internal communication. We need a quick and simple way to get to know who is on which committee, and what the different committees are doing – to avoid duplication and rather synergise our efforts to promote immunology globally. This quarterly newsletter initiated by our President Prof Mantovani and the ExCo is a great initiative to keep us abreast of recent events in different IUIS committees. Each Committee has the chance to share exciting updates or new developments/activities at least once a year. We can do more! The ExCo is currently working with K.I.T. Group to revamp the website which we think is ultimately a logical central place for information that most of us can access with ease. While this is in process, you can expect to hear from me, generally touching base, and looking to see how we can continue to improve and make IUIS dynamic, interactive and exciting.

PID London 2017
The IUIS Primary Immunodeficiency (PID) committee met in February 2017 to develop the current listing of primary immunodeficiencies, now renamed as inborn errors of immunity. The namechange reflects the increasing appreciation for non – infectious manifestations of monogenic disorders of the immune system. The current listing includes 328 conditions categorized as (1) combined immunodeficiencies, (2) combined immunodeficiencies with syndromic features, (3) predominantly antibody deficiencies, (4) diseases of immune dysregulation, (5) defects of phagocyte number or function, (6) defects in intrinsic and innate immunity, (7) autoinflammatory and (8) complement deficiencies.
