Understanding injury-induced immunosuppression

The Joint Research Unit between the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) and bioMérieux is looking for a post-doctoral fellow to work on the REALISM project whose goal is to identify and validate new markers for improving care of patients presenting high risk of sepsis (Rol et al., BMJOpen, 2017).

We set up a prospective clinical study to determine the incidence, severity and persistency of innate and adaptive immune alterations in ICU patients. We have generated a large database of clinical and biological data from ~550 patients (sepsis, severe trauma, major surgery, severe burn) and volunteers.

We are looking for a highly motivated and outstanding research scientist with consolidated experience in immunology and/or biomarkers of immune deficiencies to contribute to 1/ a better understanding of the pathophysiology of injury-induced immunosuppression and 2/ the development of new and robust biomarkers. Candidates will be supported to apply for competitive fellowship for external financial support. A strong background in immunology and clinical research documented by an excellent publication record is a plus. The candidate will work in the Joint Research Unit “Sepsis” between the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) and bioMérieux located within the Edouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon.

Responsabilities

–       Contribute to the global data analysis and identification of markers associated to injury-induced immune deficiencies, Healthcare Associated Infections and mortality in ICU patients.

–       Manage the validation of markers of interest in a validation cohort and supervise the wetlab.

–       Identify new research trails, define the scientific strategy to decipher injury-induced immunodeficiency and manage the wet lab.

–       Write publications.

Skills/Qualifications

1. PhD in Biological sciences
2. Previous research experience in injury-induced immunosuppression, immunology and/or biomarkers of immune deficiencies with at least one published paper in the field. Experience in large data analysis would be an asset.
3. Good skills in scientific paper writing.
4. Required language: English. French would be an asset.
5. Teamwork ability.
6. The researcher must not have resided or carried out the main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 36 months in the last 5 years.
