The 14th Latin American and Caribbean Immunology Congress (ALACI), held from November 4-8, 2024, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, focused on “Transdisciplinary Innovation to Bring Research Findings Closer to the Clinic.” Co-organized by ALACI, SAI, and AINCA, the event showcased cutting-edge research in immunology, including a dedicated symposium on One Health in Veterinary Immunology, organized by the AAIV and RedLatInmVet.

This symposium, held on November 6th, brought together renowned experts. Margaret A. Liu (Sweden) delivered a compelling lecture on gene-based vaccines and therapies for One Health. Hugo Ortega (Argentina) examined strategies to optimize SARS-CoV-2 vaccine design, while Elías Barquero Calvo (Costa Rica) emphasized the role of innate immunity in chronic zoonotic infections.

Poster sessions displayed 33 veterinary immunology studies, with PhD students from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Portugal actively participating. The Veterinary Immunology Round Table, chaired by Alejandra Capozzo (Argentina) and Teresa Freire (Uruguay), provided a platform for in-depth discussions. Key topics included bovine tuberculosis and novel vaccine strategies for foot-and-mouth disease virus.

The General Assembly, led by AAIV’s leadership, reflected on 2024 achievements and announced that the next Veterinary Immunology symposium would take place in Colonia, Uruguay, in 2025.

The ALACI 2024 Congress not only celebrated scientific achievements but also emphasized collaboration and knowledge-sharing, underlining the critical role of veterinary immunology in advancing the One Health approach.
