Advanced WHO/TDR Course on Immunology, Vaccinology and Biotechnology applied to Tubercolosis (Oct. 11-22, 2010)

The first day was on TB diagnosis in resource-limited settings, from basic Immunology to Neonatal Immunology. The second day included presentations by the participants and lectures on TB biomarkers discovery (Journey from the Bench to the Field) and on BCG vaccination in the context of HIV epidemics.   The third day was on innate and adaptive immune responses to TB. On the 4th day, DNA vaccines, polychromatic flow cytometry as an approach and contributions by participants. The following three days dealt with practical sessions in detection of resistance to TB, molecular techniques in current diagnostic, biosafety issues, and the clinical relevance of non-tuberculous Mycobacteria. The last two days of the course were focused on drugs and vaccines against TB.
There were 22 lecturers, from Switzerland, the Netherlands, England, Germany, Belgium, France and Italy. The 17 participants were from Brazil, Columbia, Paraguay, Peru, Cuba, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Ghana, RD Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, and Vietnam.
